surgeons are medical doctors they person operations as a primary treatment in different field like orthopedic, cardiovascular, neurology, plastic surgery etc. surgeon as a special field it take up to 16 years to complete. it include 4 years of undergraduate study in a medical school to get doctor of medicine degree and 3 to 8 years of surgical residency at hospital. starting with pre medical program realted field biology,physics, chemistry with bachelors degrees students are prepared to attend medical school and get medical doctors. after medical school students continue medical training in residency programs and get practice and choose the specialty area. According to AMA it takes 3 to 7 years depends on the speciality. general surgery residents take 5 years to continue additional 1 to 3 years of post-doctoral training in fellowship programs. The surgeon with a subspecialty of the program to complete 1 to 3 years of psot doctoral training in fellowship programs. To become licensure along with formal training from medical school all the states need a surgeon to get medical licensure. the surgeon must also have board-certified in surgery with any subspeciality by the American board of medical specialty. surgeons need to complete and continue their education throughout the carrier to maintain certification and license.
