1) Water flow is classified as external and internal. Water flows through pipe is catergorized under internal flow. Losses in head occurs are classified as major and minor. This happens due to friction, bends etc. When water flows through a section of pipe the friction between the fluid and the inside surface of the piping creating head loss.

2) Bernoulli's equation is equation which describes the pressure difference in two different points of pipe with respect to velocity changes or change in kinetic energy and height changes or change in potential energy. The general form of this equation is written below.

3) A portion of energy is lost to overcome the resistance to the flow. At the same time, other factors such as change in velocity and elevation causes energy dissipation. This dissipation of energy causes energy loss, which is technically known as head loss.
