Nursing considerations and teaching nneed in case of Amish
women
- Amish are known for their simple
living and reluctance to adopt modern conveniences.
- Roles of women are considered equally important but the men are
considered in authority.
- Most Amish need to have church permission to be hospitalized
because the community comes together to pay costs.
- The Amish usually do not have health insurance as they may
believe it to be a worldly product and show their lack of faith in
God.
- Someof the barriers to healthcare are lack of transportation,
cost and language (as they do not understand medical jargon). Often
work as farmers, builders, quilters and homemakers.
Teaching need
- Information regarding health care decisions needs to be given
to both husband and wife in case of married women, and woman and
father in case of unmarried women.
- Simple, clear language must be used to explain health
instructions.
- The health implications associated with breast cancer need to
be clearly explained to them, as well as the need for the treatment
and procedures involved.
