Every major catastrophe, fire, as well as many personal events seems to bring out scams. A particular area of fraud is charitable giving. Hurricane Sandy, 9/11, Hurricane Katrina and many other events have resulted in people seeking to take advantage of a sad situation.
How are charitable scams perpetuated?
What should a giver look for before making a contribution?

Charitable fraud scams are often perpetuated via internet, although some charities scams are telemarketing scams that involve calling people to solicit donations for fake charities. Anytime misleading statements about charitable purposes are used to unjustly enrich the scammer at the expense of victims, fraud scam may be considered as a charity scam.
A giver should ask following qs before making a contribution :
- whether the charity can clearly communicate who they are and what they do?
- whether the charity can define their short term and long term goals ?
- can the charity tell us about the progress what it has made towards its goals?
- whether we support the charity programs ?
- last but not the least is that we trust that charity or not?
