Expert Solution

The process of ethical decision making is quite complicated as there are many factors that need to be taken into consideration. When it comes to ethical decision, knowing the facts and implementing in the most appropriate way is extremely important. Keeping a neutral perspective in understanding things is important. These are generally the steps that one must consider while making an ethical decision.

  1. Knowing the facts right – Better understanding of the subject or area for which the decision needs to be made is important. There are many questions that need to be answered while making a decision and hence knowing the facts are extremely important. This can be done by researching and studying about the things not only superficially but going in depth.
  2. Predicting the consequences – Before making the final decision, it is important to measure the pros and cons of the decision and situation. Making a tentative guess after the decision is made helps in reducing the state of confusion and takes the decision. Element of uncertainty is always there but a rough sketch of the future can be made.
  3. Know all the options – While making an ethical decision, it is important that one is aware of all the possible options and consequences associated with them. Identifying the options with personal feelings and intuition helps in figuring out the acceptance level of the decision. After evaluating all options and identifying the consequences, it is important to take the decision and choose right option.
  4. Analyze your reaction – Before implementing the decision, it is important to figure out if it is something that you can accept. Ask yourself questions like – “Are you comfortable with the decision?”, “Would it make you feel guilty?” etc.
  5. Implement and explain – After taking the decision, there must be a lot of follow up and explanation that needs to be done. It is important that you explain people and someone who is concerned with the decision the reason behind such step or decision. Always try to explain and put the positive points in front of people and how can it be of human service
