1. DRI (Dietary Reference Intakes):-
-It is a set of reference values for specific nutrients.
-DRI replaces the reports on Recommended Dietary Allowances
(RDA)
-DRI began in June 1993 and revised as a future of RDA but
dismissed.
-Four DRI are as follow-
a) RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowance)
b) AI (Adequate intake)
c) UL ( tolerable upper intake level)
d) EAR (Estimated Average Requirement).
2. DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RDA AND AMDR:-
a)RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowance) is the estimated average
daily nutrient intake sufficient to meet the needs of nearly all of
healthy individuals in a particular life stage and sex group.
- Exampe :- RDA for vitamin B1 for adults is 1 mg/day.
b)AMDR (Acceptable Macronutrient distribution ranges):- these are
intakes that are associated with reduced risk of chronic
disease.
-AMDR are expressed in percentage of calories from total daily
calories.
Example- AMDR for carbohydrates for individuals upto 18 years of
age is 45-65%.
3. TERTIARY PREVENTIONS OF TYPE 2 DM:-
- Tertiary prevention means to improve the quality of life and
reduce the symptoms of a disease already a patient have.
- it is aimed at preventing the complications of type 2 DM.
-This is achieved by weight loss, whether achieved by diet, drugs
or bariatric surgery.
4. PLANT SOURCES OF FATS:-
- plants oils as sunflower,souabean)
- walnuts
5. ANIMAL SOURCES OF FATS:-
- meat
- milk and milk products
- paultry an eggs.
