Describe ethical issues implicit in conducting research in developing nations. Are these concerns different from developed nations?
ETHICAL ISSUES IN CONDUCTING RESEARCH IN DEVELOPING
NATIONS:-
(i) Informed consent:-im developed countries,it means that one has
to fully understand about the procedure which is about to
taken.
-But in developing nation the subject may not be able to understand
what the purpose of the experiments is, or what the disease itself
is all about.
(ii) Compensation:- CIOMS (Council for International Organizations
of Medical Sciences) recommends that payments to research
participants, should not be so large as to persuade subject to take
undue risks.
- in case of developing countries it suits.
(iii) Standard of care:- participants in developing countries
should receive the same standard of care and treatment as
participants would receive in the developed country.
- it should maintain universal standard of care.
(iv) Research ethics committee:- According to WHO there should be a
ethical committee to ensure the broadest possible coverage of
protection for potential research participants and contribute to
the highest attainable quality.
(v) After a completion of a Research the gained Information from
clinical trials conducted efficiently in developing countries may
allow early registration of drugs in developed countries, it should
also benefit the citizens of developing countries in which the
research was undertaken.
