Proactive policing is an approach to prevent and reduce crime and crime rates before they would happen, than being taking action after an event of crime has happened, as a reaction to it. Proactive approach of police focusess on the broader area of possible causes of crime and try to eliminate them by active presence and prevention, than waiting for the crime to happen and then reacting to it.
Proactive policing has reduced crime rates, it has more practical strategies to prevent and eliminate crime in the society. Thus, it has increased the efficiency of the police. People's participation and cooperation is necessary for this approach. Community is actively involved in this policing, hence, the perception of police is changing from an indifferent policing to a community friendly policing. But, still it has some negative evaluation for techniques such as Stop Question, and Frisk (SQF), which is still in controversy due to unnecessary intrusion and sometimes, due to discriminatory approach of police.
