How does misinformation threaten democracy?

How does misinformation threaten democracy?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Being in a democracy has both the sides:- positive and negative.

It is a true fact that democracy is the best system in a country where everybody has the right to participate in the election process. It allows every individual to vote for his own personal choice.

But democracy also has the negative side which allows the wrong person to get elected and rule the country by misguiding the citizens. It has happened many times in many countries specially after the introduction of the social media. The online harrasements, exploration of hate speeches and disguiding the citizens and involving them to participate in the violence are some examples which had happened in the past due to some misinformation. Also the media currently are misguiding the citizens and misusing their power of press just to earn higher profits by increasing their TRP's just by misinforming its viewers. It had happened in the past and it will happen in the future.

The only way to get rid out of this problem is to not believe such viral videos and news which are misguiding the citizens of the country.
