Due to rampant use of antibiotic, bacteria develop new ways to defend against antibiotics and decreases the overall effectiveness of the antibiotic treatment (antibiotic resistance). There are several ways to stop antibiotic resistance:

  • Use antibiotics only when necessary and it should be prescribed by a certified healthcare professional.
  • Always complete the full course of antibiotic treatment and stop the treatment when infection is cured.
  • Antibiotics should be prescribed and consumed only when the causative agent is bacteria. Don't use antibiotics for a viral infection such as cold or flu.
  • Prevent infections by washing hands and practicing good hygiene.
  • Antibiotics should not be given to animals for reasons other than treating infections and diseases (minimize inappropriate use like as growth promoters)
  • Use other means to limit the spread of infection. For example vaccination.
