Describe another method other than filtering to separate a solid from a liquid. Compare and contrast this method with filtering.
Centrifugation:
This method makes use of a centrifuge to separate mixtures of liquids and very fine solid particles, especially in cases where filtration does not work well. The centrifuge spins the mixture at very high speeds. This causes the denser particles of the solid to move outward and separate from the liquid. When the rotation is stopped, the solid particles end up at the bottom of the glass with the liquid at the top, which can be decanted.
