identify drug class, purpose, typical dose, route, and adverse effects for acetaminophen with codeine
Drug glass - Acetaminophen with codeine is a class of medications called analgesics and antipyretics.
Purpose- Acetaminophen is an analgesics and antipyretics which is used to temporarily relive the pain from headache , cold, menstrual period pain etc. It is also used to reduce the fever.
Dose- The dose of medicine will different for different patient. The maximum adult dose of acetaminophen daily is 4 g , it means 1 g in every 6 hours. But for the children the maximum dose should be 75mg/kg means 10-15mg/kg in every 4-6 hours.
Route- Mainly three routes are recommend to take acetaminophen like oral, rectal, IV(Intrevenous). It is available in the form of tablet, capsule, syrup, oral solution, IV infusion, rectal suppository for both pediatric and adult.
Adverse effect- The common side effect while taking acetaminophen like itching, black stool, red spot, less urine, nausea, yellow skin, weakness. Heavy use of acetaminophen will increase the chance of kidney disease, there may be the chance of heart attack, high blood pressure.
