A 32 inch diameter pump handling 22000 GPM flow of water coming from an atmospheric tank storage is running at 1170 rpm. The water temperature can be taken at 25 C. The suction line is 20 meter long at 6 inch diameter. The pump suction is 0.4 meter above ground level. The tank storage is elevated on a 1 meter high platform. Assume friction factor of 0.02. Specific Gravity of water at 25 C is 0.9967. NPSH required is 34 ft. Determine: A) NPSHA in terms of feet, B) Will cavitation occur, yes or no? C) BHP D) the specific speed., E and G) if new speed is 900 rpm with same impeller diameter, determine the new flowrate in GPM and new head in ft?

Turpentine flows by gravity from tank 1 to tank 2 through 24 m of 1.5-inch diameter commercial steel pipe. Both tanks are open to atmosphere. The tanks are large, so assume that the level of turpentine in both tanks remains the same with time. The level of tank 1 is 15 m higher than the level of tank 2 (indicated on the schematic as z1 and z2). There are two standard 90° elbows and one open gate valve in the...

The piston diameter of a certain hand pump is 0.7 inch. The manager determines that the diameters are normally distributed, with a mean of 0.7 inch and a standard deviation of 0.005 inch. After recalibrating the production machine, the manager randomly selects 21 pistons and determines that the standard deviation is 0.0044 inch. Is there significant evidence for the manager to conclude that the standard deviation has decreased at the a=0.10 level of significance? What are the correct hypothesis is...
