In nursing, the best leadership style to be adopted by a vice president would be transformational leadership. The transformational leadership is a style of leadership where the leader works with team to identify needed changes, creating vision to guide the change through inspiration. With the presence of clinical issues in nursing the process of problem solving has become complex. Therefore its very important trait of a leader that he/she should have the ability to adapt themselves according to the changes and with the complexity of the case. These changes may be related to the health conditions or with the changed working environment or attitude and needs of the employees working under their supervision.

In order to apply the transformational style of leadership, the leader should be energetic, enthusiastic and passion. The leader has to enhance the morale of the employees, motivate them and help them to improve their job performance. The vice president should be a role model to inspire their staff and to promote interest in their daily task. The leader should understand the strength and weakness of their staff and should assign task that will enhance their performance. This type of leadership should develop a sense of accountability towards their work among the staff. Such a leader who is concerned about the needs of their staff and who is inspiring and motivating will be certainly accepted by the staff. The staff satisfaction and cooperation will also be high. Therefore, use of this type of leadership will enhance the work performance and the productivity of the staffs.
