Movements are produced at the place where the muscle attaches with the synovial joint. Muscles provide the strength required for pulling of limbs.
Muscles can only helps in pulling movements but not the pushing movements. Muscles will pull the joints which leads to the movements of body parts like limbs, digestive tract, head, neck, etc. In legs and arms skeletal muscles attaches to the bone through tendons and holds the skeleton together. Flexor and extensor muscles work in pairs for the pulling movements of limb segments.
The flexor muscles contract to bend a limb at a joint. After the movement is completed, the extensor muscles will start their work to extend the limb at the same joint. For example, the biceps muscle is a flexor, and the triceps muscle is an extensor. Both works by contraction of muscle. When you bend at your elbow, the biceps contracts. Then the biceps relaxes and the triceps contracts to straighten the elbow.
