Affordable Care Act: Healthcare policy

Policy Title : Patient protection and Affordable Care Act.

History and Background

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act ( PPACA)  is one of the greatest health policy in the history of United States, that impacted the Healthcare system of the nation. This Healthcare reform law is enacted at the year of 2010 , March 23, by 111th United States Congress, with the purpose to make the Healthcare available for more number of people. The law is signed by the President Barack Obama and is also known as 'Obama Care' , PPACA and Affordable Care Act.  

The law was enacted as the healthcare cost of the United States was so high , as many millions couldn't afford the necessary Health services and the Insurance companies were excluding  the people with pre existing medical conditions. As a result any were not able to acess the necessary Health services. Affordable Care Act is passed with the ultimate goal of increasing the coverage for more number of people and ensure that the Medicaid benefits and adequate healthcare delivery  are getting to the common people with more effects.  

Brief summary

This Health policy, Affordable Care Act is launched with the three ultimate goals, such as :

* Decrease the rising Healthcare cost

* Increase Health insurance coverage

* Improve the Healthcare quality.

Reports show that more than 20 million Americans benefited due to ACA. Health insurance coverage is extended especially to small children, women, black Americans and people who own small buisiness. Many law income people , people who had pre existing medical conditions , other minority groups all benefited due to ACA and it saved thousands of lives by ensuring the timely Health services for the needy.  

Interventions and applications:

  ACA supported the activities to ensure the preventive services in the community by implementing, evaluating and disseminating the Evidence based disease preventive measures through the steps such as:

* Address Health disparities

* reduce chronic disease rates

* prevent the development of complications or secondary disease conditions.

ACA expanded Medicaid eligibility for citizens   , having an income upto 133 % of Federal Poverty line. Medicare reimbursement is reduced to hospitals , which are not following the Standards of care, as a result Quality of health services improved in the hospitals. It alo reduced reimbursement for drug companies and insurers , which are found to be excessively costly in their services when comparing with the standard Medicare .
