A neurotransmitter can be said as a chemical messenger that carries boosts, and balances the signals among neurons or nerve cells, and other cells in the body. These messengers can affect a wide range of psychological as well as physical functions which includes heart rate, sleep, appetite, mood, and fear. There are billions of these molecules which works constantly to keep our brain functioning, managing everything like our breathing, heartbeat, learning and concentration levels.
How Neurotransmitters Work:
In order to send messages for neurons throughout the body, they need to communicate with one another to transmit the signals. However, neurons are not simply or directly connected to each other. Synapse is a tiny gap at the end of each neuron to communicate with the next cell, the signal should be able to cross this small space. This happens with the help of process called as neurotransmission.
