What role do monocytes play?
The function of monocytes is to help other blood cells remove damaged tissue. They help in destroying cancerous cells. They help to ingest, harmful dead or damaged cells. As they mature, they play a vital role in immune system like phagocytosis, antigen presentation and cytokine production. Increase in monocytes depicts that the body is trying to fight with certain diseases like cancer or blood disorders etc.
