What role, if any does media play in shaping a woman’s self-image regarding the appearance of her genitals? Be sure to discuss the relatively new cultural phenomenon of shaving or waxing one’s pubic region and/or genital piercings. Explain why male size has historically been so important and how it has affected men’s masculinity and/or self-image. Describe penile augmentation procedures. Males tend to be more comfortable with their genitals than females are with their genitals. This in part accounts for the greater rates of masturbation among males than females. What are the underlying reasons for such gender differences? Are they consistent cross-culturally?
Media has always been influential in potrayal of women’s appearance of her genitals.Women has been expected to shave or wax their genitals just like arms and legs.It is otherwise considered unpretty and unappealing to the other gender.Women are now a days influenced into getting their genitals tattooed and pierced as it defines their coolness and modern quotient. It is a phenomena of confirmation bias where women wants to be accepted even if it means doing things one must not like.Media through TV commercials and films engrain the mindsets of society into believing women shall look pretty even if that means waxing one’s genitals.
Male size has been specifically more important as it defines a man’s masculinity and how good is he at sex.Males with a shorter size are looked down upon as incapable of engaging in sexual relationships.Men tend to engage in acts where they adopt penile augmentation procedures to prove their masculinity to the female counterpart.Men consider a larger size as a symbol of confidence and positive body image. It signifies their sexual capabilities according to them which otherwise signifies low self esteem and low self confidence.
Males have a higher rate of masturbation than females as they have been exposed to sexual content early in life from times immemorial.Males are also encouraged to explore sexuality early in life whereas women are tend to preserve their virginity.Any waman engaging in masturbation has often been looked down upon as a prostitute.Even if women want to,they are not encouraged or exposed to indulge in such acts.
It is however different in every country and its culture. For instance,In US women have the freedom to indulge in acts like masturbation or self exploration whereas in India a woman indulging in such acts is accused of a bad moral character.
This accounts for difference in male and female engagement in acts of masturbation.
