A pipe with diameter 1.8cm splits into two even diameter pipes. There is no change in flow speed before and after the split. What are the diameters of the pipes after the split?
From continuity equation, we have, rate of flow = speed x area
Here, the rate of flow of main pipe is constant = AV.
Where A is the area of the main pipe. and V is the speed of flow in main pipe.
After splitting, let the velocity be U = V (given in question) and area be a.
Cancelling out V:
We have area is given by:
Given that, d1 = 1.8 cm
