personal health: Chapter 1: Health the basics: Changing behavior is not always easy. Once again, refer to the behavior that you have identified as one you would like to change. (quit eating junk foods) Using the goal-setting elements discussed in Chapter 1 as a reference, respond to the following questions: (1) What do I want - what is my ultimate goal? (2) Why is this behavior the greatest priority at this time? (3) Why is it important to me to change this behavior? (4) What health-promoting programs and services are available to assist me in my behavior change? (5) Who can I call on for support? Develop a plan of action based on the steps for making a change as outlined in your book.
1. Goal - to quit eating junk food .
Goal must be realistic ,specific ,measurable, timely and action based .
2. This behaviour is greatest priority because this behaviour caused a drastic increase in my weight and is causing many physiological problems like difficulty in breathing unable to play, walk etc, making me prone to many diseases.
3. It is important for me to change my behavior as it has many disadvantages like increase in weight , many metabolic disorders like diabetes, hypertension, obesity , heart diseases , psychological problems like damaged physical appearance , depression etc.
4 various health programed which I can use for behaviour change are :-
-behaviour modelling programmes
- health communication
- fear appeals
- persuasive communication
- health education
- motivation therapy
- cognitive therapy
- health beliefs program
- group teaching
5. I can take the support of my family physician ,nurse counsellor , and various support groups.
The plan of action stages are :-
- precontemplation - in this phase individual is unaware of the need to change the behaviour as he does not know the consequences of his behaviour.
- contemplation - in this phase individual knows about the pros and cons of his behaviour but has feat to change the behaviour.
- preparation - in this phase individual outweighs the pros of his behaviour and makes plans to change the behavior.
- action - the individual executes the plan and changes his behavior.
- maintainance - the individual avoids the temptations to return to his previous behaviour and maintaines the new behavior.
