Teach your classmate about one specific type of nutritional assessment tool
There are various types of nutritional assessment tools for screening of malnutrition. They are I. Details history, ii. Physical examination, iii. Anthropometric measurements, iv. Laboratory findings and biochemical measurements.
I shall describe you about the Anthropometric measurements of nutritional assessment =
Definition = anthropometric measurements are the series of quantitative measurements of muscle, bone and adipose tissue used to monitor the composition of body.
Elements = the core elements of anthropometric measurements are - hight, weight, BMI, head circumference, chest circumference, hip, waist circumference, mid arm circumference, skinfold thickness.
I. Hight = hight is the measurement of the length of the body. It is measured through tep measure, stadiometer, infantometer etc.
ii. Weight = it is the measurement of body weight of the patient. It is measured by weight machine.
iii. BMI = it is the value derived from the mass and height of a person. It is measured by weight respect to hight square.
iv. Head circumference = it is the the measurement of head around largest length. It is basically measured for pediatric clients. It is measured by tep measure.
V. Chest circumference = it is the measurement of chest around the maximum length.
vi. Mid- arm circumference = it is measurement of maximum length around the mid upper arm.
vi. Skin fold measurements = it is the measurement of the fat content of the subcutaneous layer of skin. It is measured by a skinfold clipper.
vii. Hip and west circumference = this is also measured through tep measure.
