Jean Watson's theory of human caring was given by Jean Watson distinguished professor in nursing. The core concept of Watson theory is disease can cured by treatment but the illness will sustain without proper care.
The assumptions given in this theory are: Effective caring helps in the promotion of individual health. The environment in which the person receiving care must be conducive.
The four major concepts of Wason's theory are:
Human being : a valued person to be care with utmost respect.
Health : According to Watson health refers to physical,mental and social functioning of the individual in a higher level. The absence of illness is also a component of good health.
Environment: A environment that facilitates the caring attitude among the nurses.
Nursing:nurses helps in promoting heath of the society,to prevent illness and caring the sick to restore the health to the maximum extent.
Application of Jean Watson theory in nursing practice: Normally the work place environment of the nurses are often frustrating and filled with anger,agony,frustration. In order to overcome this negative feeling Jean Watson emphasis the concept of cultivating caring in nursing practice.It helps to create healthy nurse patient relationship by promoting trust.
For example : A client complaints of shortness of breath the immediate thing addressed by the nurse is placing the patient in a comfortable position. This facilitates the ease in breathing. Next step the nurse can monitor the saturation and administer oxygen as prescribed. Providing a comfortable position initiates a strong patient and nurse relationship.
