In open tube CE a) How does chiral analysis work and with what additives? b) explain with detail why use coated capillaries? c) explain with detail why open tube CE shows high resolution towards certain samples? d) what are the differences between electrophoresis and electroosmosis in detail?
Please provide reference of where you got this from
The open tube capillary electrophoresis is a technique to analyze polar compunds
a) The use of chiral analysis is mainly in analysis of small molecules or ions. The chiral additive or separator is added in the electrophresis method which as different affinity for the the two enantiomers need to be separated or analysed in the experiment . The enantiomer binds in an equilbirum with the additive.
The additives used are : sodium-1-menthoxyacetate etc
b) In sepration of biological compounds (especially protein) a problem is faced that they get adsorbed to the tube.
This affect the effeciency of sepration. so the tubes are coated with some polymeric material is used. It also increase the flexibility.
c) It shows high resolution towards certain samples as the resolution is just based on the diffusion and eletric current applied. So higher the diffusibility of sample more the separation
d) The electroosmosis is observed when
a) surface / volume becomes high
b) the bulk movement of liquid is observed when the liquid nearby to a charged system is under an electric field
c) it is a common phenomenon in CE.
