You are a manager of a division of a company that is responsible for the final assembly of two computer products, modems and keyboards. You manage two employees, Julio and Chenyu, who each work 8 hours per day. Currently you have assigned both Julio and Chenyu to spend the first 7 hours of the day assembling keyboards and the last hour assembling modems. Julio can assemble 2 modems per hour and 14 keyboards per hour. Chenyu is more highly skilled in both activities. She averages 3 modems per hour and 15 keyboards per hour.

1. Devise a way of reassigning the work activities between the two employees that keeps the number of modems being assembled the same as before but increases the number of keyboards.

Solutions

Expert Solution

1. A company assembled two computer products-modems and keyboards and the division manager of the company assign two employees named-Julio and Chenyu to assemble the keyboards and modems. Julio and Chenyu, each works 8 hours per day. the manager assigned both Julio and Chenyu to spend the first 7 hours of the day assembling keyboards and the last hour assembling modems.

at first, we can draw a table showing work done by two employees-Julio and Chenyu:

number of products assembled
name of the employee modems keyboards
Julio 2 14
Chenyu 3 15

At first, we have to find the Total number of key boards assembled by Julio therefore we have to multiply 14 with 7 then we get the answer 98.

After that we have to find the Total number of key boards assembled by Chenyu, in order to get that multiply 15 with 7 then we get the answer 105.

So that the total number of keyboards assigned by JULIO and Chenyu ARE 203.

Secondly, we have to find the Total number of modems assembled by Julio therefore we have to multiply 2 with 1 then we get the answer 2.

After that find that we have to find the Total number of modems assembled by Chenyu, in order to get that multiply 3 with 1 then we get the answer 3.

So that the total number of modems assigned by Julio and Chenyu are 5.

Therefore as per the current working assignment the total number of keyboards assigned by JULIO and Chenyu are 203 and the total number of modems assigned by JULIO and Chenyu are 5.

In this work one point is clear that Chenyu is more highly skilled in both activities, So that in order to get more keyboards, we have to re-arrange the working schedule of both Julio and Chenyu.

As a manager assign Julio to spent 8 hours of the day assembling modems and assign Chenyu to spend 8 hours of the day assembling keyboards, thereby we can increase the number of keyboards and the modems assembled remain same.

Summary: After reassigning the work activities between the two employees, modems being assembled remains same as before and the total number of keyboards assembled increases. So here production of keyboard systematically increased.
