Low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) is recommended for adults age 55-80 who have a 30-pack year smoking history, and who currently smoke or who have quit in the past 15 years. A recent study of 100,400 adults found 1,395 adults who had positive results on a LDCT scan truly had lung cancer. Of the 500 lung cancer cases, 100 had negative results on a LDCT scan.
