*Patient abuse or neglect is act of harm to the patient either intentional or unreasonable.Patient Abuse includes physically striking or sexually assaulting a patient. It also includes the intentional withholding of necessary food, physical care, and medical attention.

*Usually in nursing homes patients get abused in service planning,third party selection and the medication delivery etc.

*Federal/state laws related to nursing homes and assisted living centres protect the patients from abuse or neglect through National patient abuse pevention laws,which includes,
-adequate and qualified nursing staff.
-appropriate care must be provided.
-conduct initially a comprehensive and accurate assessment of patient.
-develop a comprehensive care plan for each patient.
-provide, if a patient is unable to carry out activities of daily living, the necessary services to maintain good nutrition, grooming, and personal oral hygiene.
-ensure that patients do not develop pressure sores and, if a patient develops, provide care to promote healing, prevent infection, and prevent developing new sores.
