you are been activated to assess a 13 year old asthmatic patient. Based on your assessment the patient cant speak in complete sentences. the small amount of information is Breath sounds diminished throughout respiratory rate of 46, heart rate of 140, spo2 of 85% on room air.Retractions and nasal flarring visible, based on the information above how would you treat this patient? what labs or other assessment components would you need. The physician is very busy and has given you and RN permission to order whatever you need to improve the patient breathing status (this include ordering drugs outside the respiratory scope. once the patient has improved what education materials and plan would you provide the patient before they are discharged from the hospital
*TEATMENT FOR ASTHMATIC PATIENT:--
• Assess the patient the level of respiratory system.
• Assess to find out trigger factors for asthma and instruct to avoid this.
• Instruct Patient to deep breathing coughing excersize.
• provide quick relief inhaler ( bronchodilator) ex- Albuterol.
• Give semi fowler position to expand lungs.
• Administration of moist oxygen.
• Administration of beta-2 agonist.
• Provide nebulizer.
• Administration of intravenous salbutamol.
* LAB REPORT AND ASSESSMENT:--
• Physical examination:-- to check other respiratory problems such as respiratory tract infection or copd.
• Pulmonary function tests:- to determine lungs function.
• spirometry:-- to determine how much air moves in and out in a breathe.
• peak flow:-- to measure how hard Patient can breathe out.
• Chest X ray:-- to identify any structural abnormalities in respiratory system.
• Allergy test:-- to identify trigger factors such as dust, food, pollen etc.
* STEPS TO IMPROVE BREATHING STATUS:--
• Provide semi fowler position.
• Encourage for deep breathing coughing excersize.
• Instruct to hold air for few seconds and exhale slowly.
• Provide beta-2 agonist- Albuterol or levalbuterol.
•Provide inhale corticosteroid- budesonide.
* DISCHARGE ADVICE:--
• Teach to avoid trigger factors of his asthma.
• Instructed to alert or tracking asthma symptoms.
• Instruct to maintain optimal humidity.
• Use air conditioner or always closed your windows during pollen season.
• Use peak flow meter to monitor his wellness.
• Instruct to avoid allergic food.
• Stay away from pet and dust.
• Always carry portable inheler.
• Keep practice of deep breathing coughing excersize.
• Follow up and maintain instructions of doctors and nurses.
