Have you ever had a wrong first impression of someone who had a different background or came from another culture? Has someone from a different back-ground or another culture ever had the wrong first impression of you? When? How? Should a culture have predominance over another? If yes, under what circumstances? What are the consequences of cultural imperialism? Be specific.
1. Like every other nurse i also have an opinion about people coming from different cultures.Due to ignorance about a particular culture,we have already formed an opinion about the people coming from a different background. This rules us and the wrong impression we have formed in our mind might be wrong at most times
2 No till now i never had to face such a problem. If i had to face such a situation it would have been terrible
3.Each culture is unique and varied and so when we promote a dominant culture,it leads to suppression of the minority cultures and this often has a drastic effect on the society.Especially when we are living in a multicultural society where all cultures are equally embraced and appreciated.
4.Within a few decades considerable changes have occured in the health sector.Diversity, multiculturalism is now the talk of the hour.Evaluating cultural practices is one of the essential skills a nurse require. Some of the important concepts of culture are cultural imposition and cultural imperialism.Cultural imposition is the forcing of policies of one organization to another..This kind of transfer of concepts takes place in minority groups .whereas cultural imposition is the disrespectful attitude toward the minority group by the dominant group. For Eg American culture is fastly spreading throughout the globe ,resulting in erosion of the local tradition and values of othe culture.
5.The possible consequences of cultural imperialism are it leads to depletion of minority culture .the cultural imperialism result in the loss of traditional and cultural values of ethnic group. It also fosters disparities between two culture leading to cultural loss.
