registered nurse was assigned to care for a 76-year-old patient
who had a stroke. Upon entering the room, the nurse
the patient surrounded by ID family members. The
requested the family members leave the room so she conduct her
initial assessment and perform any related
treatments .They did so.The nurse provided care in a professional,
unhurried, and gentle manner. As she was leaving,
patient said,“Thank you.You are a wonderful nurse.” later, the
nursing supervisor told her the patient told his family
Members that the nurse had spoken harshly to him and had
his arms. The family stated they would file a complaint with
the hospital administrator and the board of nursing. Are there
grounds for disciplinary actions, What should the nurse do?
Violation related to Assault, battery and culpable negligence
which fail to meet minimal standards of acceptable and the
prevailing nursing practice..Aiding,assisting,proceduring,employing
or advising any unlicensed person or entity to practice a
profession contrary to grounds for disciplinary action regulating
the profession or the rules of the department or the
board..Intentionally violating any provision the rules adopted by
the board. In 2006,2900 logged complaint discipline brought against
a licenced nurse...
A complaint against licenced nurse submitted in state
board of nursing..Board of nursing receive the complaint as per
licensing database and reviewed by the executive officer, the case
can be closed if there is a insufficient evidence and the complaint
is invalid,a written notice of investigation will be receive the
complaint file and see for evidence if enough evidence exists to
potentially change the nurse with a violation of the nurse practice
Act,he will interview witnesses..The board's attorney reviews all
of the evidence and nursing supervisor and consultants
recommendation then they will decide to proceed with the
case..
Every nurse is aware of the duty of safeguard of
patients and respect family concerns. The nurse got good name and
provided valuable care for the patient..so evidence is important if
the family members made complaint against the nurse..So as a nurse
she can explain to nursing authority peoples and particular
consultant what happened actually..it is important to avoid
engaging in any of the activities which make the nurse to
discilpinary actions..
