Based on the Topic: "Does the implementation of health informatics increase the level of care given to patients?"
What kinds of issues should be anticipated with the external validity of the study? Be specific and provide examples.
The implementation of health informatics increases the level of care given to patients as it improves the access, safety, and quality of care while reducing the cost of care. Since all the data of a patient is available on the internet and it can be accessed remotely the expert advice and the second opinion can be taken sitting in any part of the world.
External validity it is the extent to which the results of a study can be generalized to other situations and to other people. For establishing that an experiment is valid externally an investigator must ascertain whether his conclusion is correct or not. He must make sure if the changes in the independent variable are indeed responsible for the observed variation in the dependent variable. He must find if; the variation in the dependent variable can be attributable to other causes. As such threats to external validity compromise an experimenter’s confidence in stating whether the study’s results are applicable to other groups. Thus confounding variables are threats to the validity of an experiment. For example, if while is researching whether lack of exercise leads to weight gain, lack of exercise is our independent variable and weight gain is our dependent variable. Confounding variables may be the different types of diet that also has an effect on your dependent variable.
