What is the difference between a group "at risk" for poor health and a group considered a "vulnerable" population? Provide an example of an "at risk" or "vulnerable population" group in the United States and one in another country (or immigrants within the United States).
Explain why members of these groups cannot advocate for themselves or why advocating for these groups would be beneficial.
What would you advocate for?
Identify ethical issues that need to be addressed when working with these individuals.
Provide information about the selected "at risk" group. How many individuals fall into this group and what are some issues they face.
A group of people at risk indicates prevalence of some risk factors or exposure which cause threat to the health of that group. Example school age children are at risk for obesity as they don't do physical activity, consume fast foods which has monosodium glutamate.
Vulnerable population groups acquire greater than average risk of developing health problem. Vulnerable population are those with risk for poor health, psychological or social health(Aday,2001).As vulnerable population is a group that are more likely to develop health-related problems, have less access to healthcare and are more likely to experience a poor outcome or shorter life span because of poor health conditions.
At risk population are people who may have access to healthcare and functional services but their ability in accessing the available care makes them at risk. People with chronic diseases are at risk of poor health outcomes and theybconsume more Medicare allowances than healthy individuals. The chronically ill are twice as likely to report poor health days as the general population.American Indian and Alaska Native people have long experience lower health status when compared with other Americans.”They are example of vulnerable population.
They cannot advocate themselves because they don't have wealth or money to fulfill their basic needs even. When a child from vulnerable population catch any disease symptom ,lack of healthcare, education , money the child may not get essential treatment .
