Public health is defined as the "science and art of disease prevention", extending life and enhancing quality of life through organized and informed efforts of the society, public and private organizations, communities and people. Analyzing the determinants of population health and the threats it faces is fundamental to public health. The public can be as small as a handful of people, or as big as a whole village or city. In the case of an epidemic, it can cover many continents. Therefore, according to the World Health Organization, this is not just an absence of illness or disability, but is currently a resource for everyday life.

Public health is an education sector. For example, epidemiology, biology, social science, and health management are important. Other key sub-sectors include health, environment, community health, behavioral health, public economy, health policy, mental health, education, occupational health, disability, gender and sexual health, and sexual and reproductive health.

Public health aims to improve quality of life through the prevention and treatment of diseases, including mental health. This is done by monitoring cases and health indicators and by promoting healthy behaviors. Public health initiatives include promoting handwashing and breastfeeding, vaccination, suicide prevention, smoking cessation, education, obesity, access to health care, and distribution of condoms to control The spread of sexually transmitted disease.

Modern public health practice requires a multidisciplinary team of professionals and health professionals. Teams may include epidemiologists, biologists, physician assistants, nurses, midwives, microbiologists, economists, sociologists, geneticists, data managers, and physicians. Depending on the needs of environmental health professionals or public health examiners, biologists and even veterinarians, gender specialists or sexual and reproductive health specialists.

As in other countries, access to health care and public health initiatives is a difficult challenge in developing countries. Public health infrastructure is still being developed in these countries.
