1. Concerning the water supply system and structure from the two different water companies, explain the soundness of the research approach. Is this descriptive or analytic epidemiologic research design?

Snow ,father of epidemiology conducted a investigation regarding cholera outbreak in London in 1854. The research was conducted by him during cholera outbreak to find the cause of disease and its prevention. The research is an example analytical epidemiologic research design as it was done to evaluate association between exposure and disease outcome. Snow 's research was sound as his research involved scientific methods. Snow had noted that districts with the highest death rates were serviced by two water companies: the Lambeth Company and the Southwark and Vauxhall Company and conducted research regarding ways to discover cause of the disease.Snow found out Broad Street pump (Pump A) was source of infection as it was the pump providing water to the district. His research also concluded that cholera is transmitted through contaminated food and water as the pump supplied water was contaminated by sewer line.Snow demonstrated through epidemiologic studies that water could serve as a vehicle for transmitting cholera and that epidemiologic information could be used to direct prompt and appropriate public health action using these water companies .(CDC,.2012)

Thirty-two 1-Liter specimens of water were drawn from the water supply for a city and the concentration of lead in the specimen was measured. The average level of lead was 7.3 µg/Liter, and the standard deviation for the sample was 3.1 µg/Liter. Using a significance level of 0.05, do we have evidence the mean concentration of lead in the city’s water supply is less than 10 µg/Liter? Find: The t critical value ? The water supply for two cities is measured for contaminants. On 16 different days the contamination level for the water from city A was 17 parts per million on average with a standard deviation of 4.2 parts per million. The same data was collected on 14 different days for city B. The average contamination level was 11 parts per million and the standard deviation was 5 parts per million. Use 25 for degrees of freedom. At the 5% significance level...

Suppose the water supply in a community was a blend coming from a few different sources. Depending on the location of a residence, there would be different amounts of water from each of the different sources. One source was contaminated. From the time of contamination until the discovery of it, there were 20 live births in the community. 2 babies were born with abnormalities. Amount of water going to each of the residences where mothers resided during pregnancy was recorded....
