GERD is Gastro Intestinal Reflux Disease is a condition wherein
the gastric secretions or bile regurgitates back into the esophagus
causing heart burn and irritation in the food pipe.
Nutritional Assessment for GERD :
- Assess the nutritional intake and dietary pattern of the
client.
- Assess for the BMI of the client.
- Assess the time intervals of food intake.
- Assess the severity of heart burn.
- Assess the lifestyle of the client.
- Assess if any weight loss present.
- Assess for bowel sounds for any decreased peristalsis.
- Assess for any intolerance after consumption of fried and fatty
foods.
- Assess for early satiety levels.
- Assess for symptoms of altered taste.
- Assess for any pain or abdominal discomfort after meals.
- Assess for dysphagia or dyspepsia.
- Assess for anxiety as anxiety increases the severity of
GERD.
These are the few assessments that is done for client with GERD
and based on these assessments treatment is planned.
