What are your views of incorporating genomic nursing in aging care? (at least 100 words)
Genetics and genomics play important role in health and disease. Genomics help people find out why people get infections , environment hazards etc.
A person's health is influenced by famliy history of diseases. Many diseases are inherited and some are acquired during old age and nurses know more about these patients history . Nursing focusses on health promotion and disease prevention which is an integral part of the healthcare.
Nurses must be competent for obtaining family history and drawing pedigree chart and persons at risk of developing familial diseases.
Genomics studies helps nurses to solve many drug related allergic reactions which may be fatal . Eg : warfarin . They also help in facilitating genetiic testing and obtain test results and lab reports. So by these reports they can provide genetic counseling for the family and individuals.
They also help in research of drugs and their related reactions and improving their outcomes.
These studies helps nurses easy to diagnose cancers like breast cancers , prostate cancer , lung cancer, cardiovascular disease , DIABETES and hypertension ,Alzeimers disease , cystic fibrosis and mainly A PARKINSON'S DISEASE . All these contribute to major mortality and morbidity in old age . Thus they help in giving people a quality diagnosis and management and future prevention with early detection and treatment leading to decreased mortality and morbidity.
