There has been a shift in culture through the various years, in the three centuries that have witnessed the political culture in America and these vary in being:
1) the honour culture: the honour culture is where a particular status is attributed to a person based on the type of his actions, which include bravery as well and his will that he would never be dominated by any person. Here, honour is only based on how other people perceive a person, as being attributed by the evaluation that people impart to one’s character and this sheer level depends on a person’s display of bravery on to a person and brave people are expected to be violent against people who would be offending them. Here, the reputation of a person is what defines their honour in the society.
2) the dignity culture: the dignity culture is not solely based on what the society would think of a person and is dependent on the moral code that a person would be holding as his own. Here, people are known to possess dignity, as being inherent to them, such that this one character could not be taken away or alienated from them. Here, public reputation is not as important as in honour code. These people are not affected by the reputation or offence held by any person, and these people are sometimes also termed as being “thick skinned”.
3) the victimhood culture: the culture of victim hood is where a there might be instances of micro aggression. Victimhood cultures , unlike honour cultures, are concerned with status of a person as well as the sensitivity that they have to slight in conjugation with the reliability that a person has on the third party people. Here, people are completely intolerant of any kind of insults, though these may be unintentional, whereas in honour culture unintentional insults may be waived off. By victimisation, a person tends to gain sympathy and they tend to emphasise on the social marginalisation or the oppression that they have faced in the society.
