The current covid-19 pandemic has brought many economies to a complete halt. While saving lives is critical, sustaining livelihoods is also important. Discuss the impact of this pandemic on tourism industry in Fiji. (Note: a country need not necessarily have positive covid cases in order to suffer the economic impacts. Due to globalization, economies without any positive cases are feeling the impact as well). Discuss possible options (policies) to deal with the impacts that you have highlighted i.e. what are the policy options (ensure these policy options are feasible; do not suggest policies that would not be possible! Think about financial resources and other limitations such as technology or domestic capacity).
The Covid-19 pandemic situation has brought recessionary trends in almost all countries. Several countries are directly affected by pandemic. The large number of covid patients and death toll creates economic, social and political instabilities in several countries. Some countries are not experiencing direct problems but these countries are indirectly affected by pandemic situations. The world is integrated now and international fluctuations and issues affects almost all economies. The tourism industry is affected badly by pandemic situation. The covid-19 set limit on international and even national movements of people's. This badly shaken the tourism sector.
The economies without experiencing any positive cases too felt
heat under the pandemic. The countries can avoid or even limit these
problems by adopting better strategic policies. The government have
to take several recovery measures to strengthen the industry.
Better support system should be placed for those who lost job. The
tourism sectors have to adopt more automation and technological
advancement while dealing with tourist, for limiting the direct
interactions.
A full swing recovery will only happen when covid vaccines are
available across countries. Thus now nations can adopt a defensive
strategies to cover minimum output from tourism industry.
