As all of you have indicated, the Bill of Rights was designed to protect the people from a powerful central government.  A common expression implies that during times of fear, people are more willing to sacrifice liberties for security.

Can you think of any examples in which we, the people, are willing to give up our freedoms and liberties in exchange for feelings of security? What do you think of this concept?

The bill of rights is also called as the 10 amendments of the constitution. It protects the rights and liberties of the common people and thus preventing the government to be of the utmost power.

Examples in which people are willing to give up their freedom and liberties in exchange for feelings of security are:

• Severe economic crisis : Severe economic crisis are periods when stability and security is of utmost importance. If the economic crisis is severe it often leads to a state of declared emergency in the state. Therefore this leads to rights and liberties curbed for maintaining security and integrity of the country.
• Curfew: Curfew is a regulation in which citizens are demanded to stay indoors for a specified period of time. Here the liberty and right of citizens to roam freely is thus curbed in exchange of maintaining security.
• War: war us a period of extreme destabilization and lack of security. Thus right and liberties are often curtailed in wars and citizens willingly sacrifice it in exchange of security.
