Ebola comes from the name of a river called EBOLA from where it was first isolated due to the disease outbreak. Ebola first broke out in the Congo basin in Zaire ( Africa ). It is a viral disease caused by ebola virus. It belongs to the family of Filoviridae virus. The virus has a filamentous structure and it's genome is single stranded negative sense RNA. There are 2 Genus present Zaire ebolavirus and Sudan ebolavirus.
Ebola is very significant in recent times because there was a huge panic and almost an epidemic in Africa due to ebola virus in 2014-16. The disease is fatal where people contracted the disease from bats and non human primates. It is highly contagious and spreads rapidly through blood transfusion, infected needles, body fluids of an infected individual. It is highly pathogenic and controlling it's spreading was quite challenging. It was endemic to Sub Saharan Africa ( near Congo). The symptoms of ebola disease include fever, sore throat, muscle pain initially then vomiting, stomach ache and haemorrhage in advanced stages. The patients are kept in intensive care unit to konotmo their health and also care is taken to ensure it doesn't spread. The treatment is mainly supportive like administering intravenous fluids as specific targeted anti viral drugs are mainly under trial and being developed. Till now it is a fatal and palliative disease.
Ebola is not a water borne or air borne disease, it is spread through contact with body fluids. Ebola was first cited in 1976 and it has been there in the world for 40 years.
