Recall the four elements of processing that improve learning. Explain which elements of processing are incorporated in this teacher's use of the KWL chart, and describe how they apply.
KWL- Know want learned strategy.
The four components of processing or working memory are input of information, processing of the perceived information, output of the processed information and storing of the information in the brain. In this KWL strategy, the teacher is using reading skills, which also play a major role in learning. It is important that the children have the skill to read, which is the central skill in learning. The next important process involved in KWL is reading comprehension process, because until the comprehend what they are reading, they wouldn’t be able to carry out any other processes. Here, the working memory of the student is coming into play, with them trying to understand whatever they are reading. This component is called processing. Only after processing of the information, they can generate an output. This output would be in the form of asking questions about the topic or determining important information such that a total image of the topic is formed.
