Diagram and describe the difference between a ceiling that is
attached to the building structure and one that is suspended
from the building structure.
An attached ceiling is the one which may be attached tightly to the structural ceiling (timber joists, rafters, steel joists or concrete slabs. There will not be any space in between the structural ceiling and this ceiling. They are mainly made of gypsum, plasterboard, toungued or grooved timber etc..
A Suspended ceiling is a ceiling that consists of panels or tiles that hang a few centimeters below the main structural ceiling. It does not make up a permanent structural foundation, but rather serves as a covering for the more solid framework above.
- It has aesthetic advantages, as it covers up beams and studs that would otherwise be exposed.
-The space in between the structural ceiling and the suspended ceilingcan be used to run wires, cables, pipes and ventilation systems.
-It allows easy modification of these hidden vents and pipes whenever necessary, without damaging anything.
