How is technology both a positive and negative influence in our understanding of death? How are attitudes toward death shifting in light of prolonged and terminal illness?
As the improvements in technology,we are having so msny chancea to extend life. If its before twenty years, people must have died in young age during their first heart attack itsrlf. But now people are living even after 4 or 5 heart attacks after angioplasty or some even after heart transplantation or with cardiopacemaker. The positives that the lofe expectancy increases with new technologies and discoveries.
Technology is a negative side in the understanding of death means, more people are living with chronic diseases than the past. There is an increase in the population and prevalence of people with chronic diseases. Sometimes there is an increase in the number of diseases whe death is near, because most of the cases, diseases are suppresed to increase life expectancy, not fully treated. Some extend death in mechanical ventilators or with transplantation. Technology increased death in nursing homes or hospitals, but previously more death at home in the presence of loved ones only.
Attitude towards death are different, most them bekieve in life after death and some had a glimpse of heaven in their dream taking death very positively. Others consider death only once and in very agony to seperate from their loved ones. Some doesnt want to extend life in ventilators or painkillers or dont want to be a burden for others, wish to die soon withdrawing every life saving measures.
