Looking for two examples of wage related issues within Connecticut? Looking at the state level and not federal.
The wage-related issues within Connecticut at the state level are:
1) Any increases in Connecticut's minimum wage after Jan. 1, 2024 will be tied to the employment cost index, a quarterly metric created by the U.S. Bureau of Labor that details changes in labor costs across the country. By doing so, it does not make any specific reference to the work-type, level of complexity of the work, level of education& skills required.
2) The 2019 minimum wage law fixes minimum wage for hotel and restaurant staff at $6.38 and for Bartenders at $8.23 under the excuse that they would get tip credit of $4.62 for hotel & restaurant staff and $2.77 for Bartenders. This is the issue. The tip credit earned by these staffs provide an excuse to the employers to pay them below the national minimum wage of $11.
Also, for minors in the age group less than 16 years of age, the minimum wage to be paid is set at 85% of the national minimum wage for adult workers, without citing any reason for the dame.
