Discuss the influence that 1 external and 1 internal factor has on the implementation and sustainability of evidence-based practice within an organization.
Evidence-based practice or EBP in healthcare refers to the dedicated utilization of best evidence while making decisions regarding the care of the patient. It has three main parts including clinical expertise of the practitioner, preference of the patient, and importantly best external evidence.
The factors responsible for the sustainability and implementation of EBP include the education level of nurses, literature reviewability, the guide for nursing practice, evaluation of research reports, apt use of research, belief in EBP values, and limitation of time.
One of the major internal factors is knowledge of the practitioner such as nurses who play a major role in executing EBP. Their knowledge of reviewing literature and choosing the best evidence is decisive for EBP sustainability and implementation as best evidence in patient care saves time and produces the best results.
One of the major external factors involve time limitation. EBP is based on the best evidence and hence time limit plays an important role as EBP can be influenced when research reports are not found in given time or time is insuffiecient to find the information of an organisation such as protocols and guidelines. This affect the quality of reasearch and subsequently evidence. It contributes to implementation of the practice and hence control the sustainablity of EBP.
