a) Cactus has pink flowers so possible genotypes are PP and Pp
b) to know the genotype of the Pink flowered cactus we have to choose one which has white flowers, that is a homozygous recessive plant, if we choose a pink-flowered plant it can be either PP or Pp, so we cannot predict the ratio or outcome of the progeny, if the plant is white we know its genotype for sure so the possible outcomes can be predicted.
c) the genotype of the Pink flower can be either PP or Pp.
PP * pp
| P | P | |
| p | Pp ( pink flowers) | Pp ( pink flowers) |
| p | Pp ( pink flowers) | Pp ( pink flowers) |
Pp * pp
| P | p | |
| p | Pp ( pink flowers) | pp (white flowers) |
| p | Pp ( pink flowers) | pp (white flowers) |
d) if the genotype of the pink-flowered cactus is PP then all progenies will have pink flowers.
If the genotype of the pink-flowered cactus is PP then it is possible to have both pink-flowered and white-flowered progenies.
