In the California poppy, an allele for yellow flowers (C) is dominant over an allele for white flowers (c). At an independently assorting locus, an allele for entire petals (F) is dominant over an allele for fringed petals (f). A plant that is homozygous for yellow and entire petals is crossed with a plant that is white and fringed. The resulting F1 plants are then testcrossed and the following progeny are produced: 54 yellow and entire, 58 yellow and fringed, 53 white and entire, and 10 white and fringed. Use a chi-square test to compare the observed numbers with those expected for the cross. Please feel free to use the chi-squared equation and the chi-squared distribution table. What is the chi-squared value for this cross?

A.

12.838

B.

4.64

C.

35.03

D.

51.901

E.

26.03

In tomatoes, yellow flowers (Wf) are dominant over white flowers (wf), and yellow fruit (r) are recessive to red fruit (R). A cross was made between true-breeding plants with yellow flowers and yellow fruit, and plants with white flowers and red fruit. The F1 generation plants were then crossed to plants with white flowers and yellow fruit. The following results were obtained: 75 white flowers, red fruit 205 white flowers, yellow fruit 216 yellow flowers, red fruit 37 yellow flowers,...

In elephants, the allele for the prehensile trunk, T is dominant over the allele for a non-grasping trunk, t; the allele for floppy ears, E is dominant over the allele for pointy ears, e; and the allele for pointy tusks, P is dominant over the allele for blunt tusks. If you were to cross a trihybrid elephant with a pure-breeding elephant with a prehensile trunk, pointy ears, and blunt tusks, what proportion of the offspring would have a genotype of...

QUESTION 1 In mice, an allele for brown eyes (B) is dominant over an allele for apricot eyes (b). At an independently assorting locus, an allele for tan coat color (t) is recessive to an allele for black coat color (T). A mouse that is homozygous for brown eyes and black coat is crossed with a mouse having apricot eyes and a tan coat. The resulting F1 mice are crossed to produce the F2. a. Tall is dominant over short, green seeds is dominant over yellow seeds. Give the result ( GENOTYPES AND PHENOTYPES) from the cross below. p- Homozygous Tall /Green x Homozygous Short/Yellow F1- ? F2- ? **Any monohybrid cross results in A 3:1 Ratio **Any dihybrid cross results in A 9:3:3:1 Ratio

In sheep, an allele for fine wool(F) is dominant over an allele for coarse wool (F). At an independently assorting locus, an allele for black hooves(B) is dominant over an allele for white hooves (b). A ewe that is homozygous for fine wool and black hooves is crossed with a ram that has coarse wool and whites hooves. The offspring are inbred to each other (F1 offspring cross) producing the F2 generation

In dogs, the allele for black coat color (B) is dominant to the allele for brown coat color (b). But if a dog has two copies of the recessive allele for a pigment-depositing gene (e), it can only have yellow coat color. In a cross of two doubly heterozygous black dogs (BbEe x BbEe), what fraction of the next generation would we expect to be yellow? WHY? a.1/8 b.1/4 c.2/3 d.3/16

In a population of mealybugs the dominant allele (G) frequency for an allele controlling fluffiness is 0.75. Selection is acting upon this locus such that the fitness values are gg=0.4, Gg=1, and GG=0.027. Simulate selection in the population by calculating gentoype frequencies following selection, and calculating allele frequencies from those genotype frequencies. a. State which genotype is being favored by selection. b. Give the normalized/corrected genotype frequency for gg following selection. Round your answer to the nearest thousandth (e.g., 0.123)...
