William wordsworth (7 April 1770 - 23April 1850).
English Romantic poet, and was Britain's poet laureate from 1843 till his death. He was one of the poets responsible for the launch of Romantic age in English literature by the publication "Lyrical Ballads".
It was William's father, James Lowther who encouraged him in his reading. He made his debut as a writer in 1787 with a sonnet published in European Magazine. He loved a French woman Annette Vallon and had a daughter Caroline. Due to French Revolution, he separated from them, and later returned to inform about his marriage to Mary Hutchinson. During this time, he wrote the sonnet " It is a beauteous evening, calm and free".
In 1793, his first publication came in the name " An evening walk and descriptive sketches"
Became 1795-97, Wordsworth wrote his only play "The Borderers" which was published in 1842. It was about the tragedy set during the reign of King Henry III of England.
His travel to Germany, inspired him to write his autobiographical piece which was later titled "Prelude". He also wrote a famous name "The Lucy Poems". Often Wordsworth, brought his publications together with other poets. The trio of Wordsworth, Coleridge and Southey were famously known as " lake poets".
In 1807, Wordsworth published Poems in Two volumes including " Ode: Intimations of Immortality from Recollections of Early childhood".
In 1813, he was appointed as Distributor of Stamps and received stipend, which made him financially secure.
In 1838, Wordsworth received honorary doctorate in Civil law from University of Durham and University of Oxford. He became Poet Laureate in the year 1843 and was the only poet to write no official verses.
He died due to pleurisy on 23 April 1850. His widow published his lengthy autobiography "Prelude" after his death.
