In your opinion what are some strategies and approaches management can take when there is poor performance from the team due to management not knowing how to handle difficult situations?
Strategies to deal with poor performance of team includes
provide training, deal with underperformance as soon as possible,
asking feedback from employees, redesigning performance evaluation
and understanding what motivates your employee to perform
better.
• Deal with underperformance as soon as possible
The manager or team leader should deal with underperforming team
immediately, otherwise then you are sending a signal that this
performance is acceptable. You must try to speak to your team
members as soon as possible when you have noticed poor performance
issue.
• Give appropriate training
You must provide appropriate training and development program to
all team members, which includes your expectations of performance,
in a clear and concise way.
This ongoing training must be giving your employees new knowledge
and skills which will be beneficial to both you and their long-term
career.
• Feedback
Ask feedback from employees. Feedback from employees will helps you
to deal with the root cause of poor performance to an extent.
It will help managers to deal with what barriers are stopping them
from completing the tasks in a satisfactory level.
• Understand what motivates your employees
It’s very difficult to direct employees without knowing what makes
them motivated as an individual.
You should take time to get to know your employees better. Ask them
questions about their long term goals, aspirations,
What are your long-term goals and aspirations? what support do they
need from you to perform better.
You can motivate employees from these responses and it is possible
to ensure they are assigned to the right place in your team.
Redefine Employee Performance Evaluations.
Consider providing monthly/quarterly feedback to improve
performance.
