How are contemporary female bodies typically represented in
advertisements, television, movies, and print media? How do these
representations influence the way girls feel about their bodies and
the way they dress? Do you think social influences contribute to

Recently, the influence of social media has increased tremendously in the society. The television industry portray women in a very sexy and attractive way. They show women as a show- piece who just dresses up well to gather attention, which is putting women in a wrong light. They are not treated equally as male actors in the television and movie industry. They are chosen on the basis of their dress-up and attractiveness. They does not value the talent in women. They are used to add glamour in the movies.
It is influencing girls particulary the youngsters in a bad way. They feel that being skinny and attractive is everything in life. If they are not attractive enough, they feel themselves as unworthy and become depressed. Nowadays, in schools and colleges also, girls are trying to look different, means they want to draw attention towards them. They follow their favorite celebrty in terms of style and dressup to grab attention. This is adversely affecting their development. They should concentrate more on their studies inspite of fashion, which this social media is teaching them.
Yes, social influences do contribute in the development of eating disorder. People try to follow their friends, collegues in terms of eating to look cool in front of thm. They eat a lot of junk which makes them prone of various eating dsorders.
